Question by : What is the performance difference between Intel processors?
between core 2 i3 i5 i7, how much of a difference is there between all the processors going up the line? what kind of uses are each meant for?

Best answer:

Answer by GaminMagicMan
Although I’m not an Intel expert, it goes up in tiers, i3 being the low-end, i7 being the high end.

Depending on the platform (e.g. Sandybridge), clock rates and cores’ll differ. Frequencies tend to stay the same, on non-SB processors the midrange is usually 2.8GHz-3GHz.

I know intel’s sandybridge i7 has 4 physical cores but utilises 8 threads, making it 8 logical cores, but don’t quote me on it.

My advice would be to go with AMD. More bang for your buck. Boy, I cannot wait for the FX processors to come out.

9 pin VGA is old style, never even seen one, I’ve been computer gaming for over 12 years now. 15 pin is the new VGA ( D-Sub ) connector, which is just as good as HDMI and DVI-D -DL which I have used all.

When you replace a Desktop’s Internal Hard Drive do you need a new OS?

Question by : When you replace a Desktop’s Internal Hard Drive do you need a new OS?
Do you need to reinstall the OS or buy a new Operating System?

Best answer:

Answer by Gabriel
Not necessarily. If the new drive is larger you can mirror the contents to the new drive using something like Norton Ghost. A simpler solution would be to simply add the new hard drive to the system and keep the old one in as well.
If your system is OEM (Dell, Gateway, Emachine, etc) and you do not use one of the above options then yes, you will need to purchase a new OS.

Why does Lebanon use Routers instead of modems for internet?

Question by : Why does Lebanon use Routers instead of modems for internet?
I just recently went to Lebanon (middle eastern country) and ive noticed that instead of modems they use routers, because in the US and Canada they use modems? Does this slow down the internet? I think it does somehow..but im not sure lol.

The internet is also pretty slow, i play english games like runescape but it takes ALOT! to load.

Answer by Patrick
While I don’t have any knowledge of internet service in Lebanon, routers and modems are fundamentally different products.

A modem is a device that allows your computer/phone/etc to interpret the signal provided by a service provider. A router shares the signal to several different clients (either wired or wireless).
Some modems include a router, while others do not.

As for the speed, this would have to do with a) the speed of the connection (likely lower in Lebanon than in the US) and b) number of users on that connection. It’s not a question of modem vs router however.

How does talking to someone with a headset on a computer work?

Question by ♀♥♂☮Trippy Hippie☮♂♥♀: How does talking to someone with a headset on a computer work?
If 2 people have headsets, how do I talk to someone that way? I mean, do I need a special messenger? Does it cost anything to get the program I need to talk to someone? Does it cost anything for each conversation?

Best answer:

Answer by Jimbo
It makes no difference using a headset or speakers with a mic. Whether one person has a headset and the other a speaker or mic, makes no difference. You do not need a special messenger, but you may have to run your audio wizard again indicating that you are using a headset. It is generally free to talk computer to computer. When you try to contact a land line with some of the messenger programs, or Skype, then you must pay.

Take care Jim C.

Yes. Log on to your room mates PC and go to printer settings. Set to sharing mode. Do the same on yours and add his printer. Then when you go to print just select his model.
