Question by Leah M: Cannot connect on internet, Under network adapters, there’s a yellow exclamation mark?
I cannot connect on internet, VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter – Agnitum firewall miniport and WAN Miniport (IP) – Agnitum firewall miniport were both with yellow exclamation point. What will I do?

Answer by Alex D
You must install your network adapter’s drivers
look for an install CD that came with your PC – Or, if you built it yourself, search online for the correct component support page and download drivers relevance to the hardware there.

My network camera and Windows Home Server sharing IP..help!?

Question by B-doh: My network camera and Windows Home Server sharing IP..help!?
how do I stop my network camera and Windows Home Server from using the same router global ip address?
When I go to the web page supposed to be for my netcamera it ends up being routed to the Windows Home Server page…they are somehow trying to use the same global router IP address..how can I seperate them?

Best answer:

Answer by Adrian
You only have one public IP, the one to your house.
What you have to do, if both the web server and camera are at port 80, is move one of them. Easiest to move the camera to another port, like 81 or 8080, then forward that port through the router to the camera’s IP address.

That’s all you can do – only one device can use any given port behind a router

Is it an IP camera or closed circuit? An IP camera usually includes a web server for streaming. If IP, find out what the IP address in then plug it into your browser.

Question by : Do N technology based network adapters connect to G-based Networks WITHOUT speed loss(up to 300mbps)?
Everywhere they say that N-based network adapters are compatible with G-based networks, but do they do the transmission with the N-speed when I’d connect to a G-based network?

Best answer:

Answer by D
no they do not loss speed. Ns are actually more stable because of how the internet waves are sent through out the room/area

Set up Network Attached Storage with my external hard drive and router.?

Question by Tyler T: Set up Network Attached Storage with my external hard drive and router.?
I have a linksys wcg200:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124141

and a Western Digital Mybook 500GB external hard drive:

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=351

Is there a way to connect my hard drive to my router to access it through a network? I have a macbook and 3 desktop PCs. NOTE that the router DOES NOT have a usb socket, only some ethernet, cable (cable internet) and power socket. Is there a way I could use the usb 2.0 output on the hard drive to the ethernet plug on my router? I’m not worried about software, just whether the hardware would work together.

I’m am fairly competent at computers. Look at some of my answers.

thanks!
EDIT: I already know how to share a computer hard drive on a network, but thanks. What I wanted to do was share the hard drive without have to have a computer on, which is true NAS. But anyways I think I will use a bluetooth setup instead.

About the only way to use a standard USB Hard drive as a NAS is to connect it to one of the PC’s and SHARE it as a network drive. It really won’t stand alone as NAS storage, it needs the computer to do the networking, or a router with USB drive support which has the network controls to do that connection.

You can get housings that support true NAS connections some even have USB as well. The one you have is USB only. Here is a combo type unit. Notice it has network addressing support and ethernet as well as usb.

Your’s simply doesn’t have any support for handling the network addressing!

Is there a way to prevent a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device from being used on a network?

Question by : Is there a way to prevent a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device from being used on a network?
Here’s what is needed. An open network that will allow us to attach any device and be able to access it whenever we want. I don’t want that network to be able to accept a NAS device. I can’t allow random devices to be plugged in and use the network so i through that 2 networks would be appropriate. An open network for the devices, and a MAC filtered network for the computers and file server.

Not too sure how i’d go about setting this up, I am by profession a software engineer not a network analyst. Budget and resources are not a concern but a variety of options would give me a good idea of what I can work with. I’ve just never had the need to have an open, and secure network, at the same time.

Thanks!
There is no wireless component to the network.
I’m looking to prevent a NAS from being attached. The main concern is that someone can walk in with a network device, plug it into the OPEN network (which we need) and then transfer it to the NAS with their secure machine.

Business network.
Ok I’ll try to simplify this. Information cannot walk out. No removal media meaning no flash drives, no external DVD’s, no anything walking out. We can lock down the computers so that they cannot use removable media. That leaves network based media, NAS to be specific. How do we prevent someone from plugging a NAS device into the network, and walking off with a bunch of information transferred.

This is probably actually a very simple question but i can’t find a straight answer.

The only stipulation is that there needs to be an “open” element to the network somewhere. As in, we plug devices in and can freely access them using TCP/IP protocols. From my understanding it is impossible to have it both ways. There would have to be a way to secure the network where no one is allowed to xfer files across a network unless it specifically authorized to be a target point.

A = Authorized Machine
B = File Server
C = NAS

If A and B exist on the network, and transfer of files between them is acce
Thanks Grim, that’s the same conclusion i came to based on my experience and thought I’d try and see if anyone out here had a better option. Thanks for the effort folks!

I don’t quite understand what you are saying, but what I think you need to do is activate this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Plug_and_Play

Universal Plug and Play can be enabled using your router’s interface by going to 192.168.1.1 (or whatever you set it to, this is just the default for most). This will allow you to continue using a firewall and WEP protection, but let wireless devices freely connect to your network.

How can I access my Network Attached Storage device? I can see it in my network but doesn’t let me access it.

Question by r_mulia: How can I access my Network Attached Storage device? I can see it in my network but doesn’t let me access it.
I have the Buffalo Terastation 1TB version: http://www.buffalo-asia.com/cgi-bin/products/detail.cgi?country=ar&code=2&id=46
I’ve set up the Terastation using the accompanying CD-ROM and when I 1st started it up I could see the drive and move files into the NAS’s folders. Since then (a few days ago) i can’t seem to reconnect to the NAS. I can see it in my network under the right workgroup but every time I double-click it it says I don’t have the right access privelages which is weird as I’ve logged in as an administrator (and I’m the only user on my home network). I’ve tried restarting both the NAS and my own computer and it’s the same issue. When I look under the Terastion Browser Management utility I can see the users who have should have access to the drive as well as IP address of the NAS and all of that. Under the Status Summary it says no users connected to it. I have added my exact same user name from Windows into the Browser management tool. Should I just map the IP address as a network drive or is that a bad way of doing it? Am at a lost as to what esle to try.

I would recommend trying something like the Filezilla FTP server… it is very easy to set up. Just go to http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=server and download it… that’s how I set up my FTP server.
